Bakkies have become synonymous with active lifestyles and being able to carry all manner of gear, but can the new Amarok take your bicycle?

Buying a Car

Does it fit?

The new second-generation Volkswagen Amarok is a total change-up for the German brand. Based on the same platform as the new Ford Ranger, the Amarok will ensure that the worlds of capable and premium will cross paths.

With three new trim levels and a host of engine options to choose from, lovers of the Amarok nameplate will now have a choice as to their preferred drivetrain, but what of the load bay and its packing space? Will you be able to get your favourite gear in the back?

A good fit

The cargo box of the single-cab Amarok is 2,305 mm long and 1,224 mm wide; it provides space for two Euro pallets loaded sideways one behind the other. The space height is 529 mm in all versions. The double cab variant however only has a length of 1,544 mm available, but that is still plenty of room to fit an entire family's worth of bicycles. You won't be getting a bike inside the Amaroks cab even though the interior is rather roomy.

We do however recommend getting some form of bike carrier solution from a reputable supplier to prevent damaging the bed and sides over time.
