It's needless to say that our website has plenty of vehicles for sale, but where do you start? Let's set a few parameters: cars under R500 000, a focus on reliability and value, and we'll look into four popular vehicle segments. Here's what we found that's all available on our website. We kept the cars here between the 2024 / 2025 model years but made some exceptions in a few instances.

1. Double Cab Bakkie - Isuzu D-Max
We found a few Isuzu D-Max's in 1.9TD L trim for sale with demo mileage between 5000km - 10 000km. Pricing ratings on our website are deemed as fair in relation to the market for this sort of vehicle. The D-Max in this trim comes with a 5-speed manual. We've found the current D-Max to be a robust and dependable vehicle with back-to-bakkie-basics dynamics that make it popular for workhorse duties.

2. Premium Compact Hatchback - Volkswagen Polo/Suzuki Swift Sport
The Polo here is the only vehicle on this list where you can decide between a standard upper spec Polo with demo mileage for under R500 000, or if you want something spicier like the GTI but ultimately with more mileage around the 50 000km mark. Pricing for both types is deemed as fair in relation to the market averages. These Polos are fairly dependable.
We do have to make an honourable mention to the Suzuki Swift Sport as that offers strong , reliable value for money and smiles per liter for under R500 000 and reasonable mileage along the 10 000km to even over 50 000km range.

3. Sedan - BMW 3-Series / Toyota Corolla
We split this into two because the Toyota Corolla follows the standard sedan route versus the BMW 3-Series premium sedan designation. For under R500 000 you can find a Corolla in hybrid trim that errs to the high price side on our Price Ratings scale currently but the value offering is strong with the Corolla thanks to its very frugal hybrid variant. Mileage we've seen typically for this price range is under 20 000km.
If you opt for something premium, then we'd look towards to the early G30 BMW 3-Series as you can fetch a few models for under R500 000. Though the mileage is on the higher end at 80 000km and above and the 2019 model year we found with under R500 000 pricing. As these are premium vehicles, pricing is going to be up there.

4. Crossover - Toyota Corolla Cross / Chery Tiggo 4 Pro
It would be a crime if we didn't mention the Toyota Corolla Cross and the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro. Interestingly, you can opt for top spec models here if you wish. Both those vehicles offer excellent value for money for under R500 000 when you go for a used model. The mileage for both vehicles are under 10 000km for the price point and offer good value as the Price rating is deemed fair here.
