5 extras you should fit on a new Range Rover Sport

A new Range Rover Sport immediately marks its owner as an individualist with a taste for the finer things in life. But, even with a features list that matches its pricetag, there’s always room for further improvement. We explored the genuine Land Rover accessories brochure to compile this list of the top 5 extras you should fit on a new Range Rover Sport.

Buying a Car

We confined this list of extras to items on offer from Jaguar Land Rover dealerships, because adding aftermarket accessories to a new vehicle could affect its warranty and maintenance plan. Fortunately, there’s a wide selection of OEM-approved things to add to a Range Rover Sport. Some of these items have to be selected when ordering the car, but others can easily be fitted on a quick visit to the dealership at a later stage.

1. Panoramic sunroof

This is a rather unusual omission from the specification sheet, but some variants in the Range Rover Sport range doesn’t feature a panoramic sunroof at all. To fix this oversight, you could tick one of two option boxes when you order your new Range Rover Sport, to get either a fixed or a tilt/slide-opening pano roof at price premiums of R 24 800 or R 28 700, respectively. If you insist on letting sunlight into your life, this is a must-have extra for your new Range Rover Sport.

2. Snazzy alloy wheels

The 19-inch units fitted as standard to lower-trim Range Rover Sports can hardly be termed “undersized”, but they could look a bit lost inside those large wheel arches to some onlookers. Land Rover offers a wide selection of up-sized wheels for the Range Rover Sport, going all the way up to 22-inch rolling stock, although we’d advise against opting for larger wheels if you plan to do any serious off-roading...

Be prepared to add up to R 45 000 onto the base price of your RR Sport, however, as some wheel options force supporting upgrades in other areas. Upgrading to 20-inchers is far more reasonably-priced at R 14 400, though.

3. Matrix LED headlights

Full-LED headlights are standard equipment on the Range Rover Sport, but upgrading to Matrix LED clusters are certainly worth their price premium R 33 700. This package includes adaptive front lighting (AFS), which optimises the lighting distribution for various driving conditions (urban, rural, freeway, and bad weather), as well as adaptive driving beam (ADB), which uses low- and high beam simultaneously and can block out single vertical sections of the light pattern to avoid blinding other road users. As an added bonus, upgrading to Matrix LEDs also gives animated indicator lights front and rear.

4. Audio system upgrades

The standard Range Rover Sport audio system is very good, and features 8 speakers and a clear colour touchscreen infotainment display. The audio setup can however be enhanced in two stages, with Meridian upgrades adding speakers and features proportional to your willingness to spend extra money.

The first upgrade level is the basic Meridian sound system (R 3 900), which ups the speaker count to 13, and adds a dual-channel subwoofer and extra tweeters for clearer high notes and deeper bass. The ultimate OEM sound upgrade comes with the Meridian Surround Sound System (R 17 900), which takes the number of speakers up to 19, and adds advanced digital signal processing to provide optimum audio quality for all occupants, individually. Considering the improvements to audio quality, these price premiums seem quite reasonable.

5. Drive Pro Pack

Certain Range Rover Sport variants include some of these options as part of their standard packages, but the “Drive Pro Pack” combines all the modern safety add-ons into one neat bundle.

This equipment pack includes blind spot assist, lane-keeping assist, park assist, 360-degree parking aid, adaptive cruise control with steering assist, and high-speed emergency braking. With a pricetag of R 33 900, this is one of the more-comprehensive such packages available in this segment, and its price seems quite reasonable in this context.
