Kia’s Sorento is one of the Korean manufacturer’s upper-level SUVs with a spacious cabin that makes it ideal for large families. The current generation was introduced in 2014, and in late 2018 the Sorento was face-lifted with a number of important updates.
Chief amongst these, from a practical point of view, is that all Sorento models now have 7-seater accommodation.
The Sorento range
The Sorento consists of four models, and all of them use the tried-and-trusted 2,2-litre turbo-diesel engine that was carried over with the facelift. It produces a punchy 147 kW and 440 Nm of torque. A big mechanical change for the October 2018 and onwards models is that the automatic transmission used on all derivatives was upgraded from a 6-speed to an 8-speed unit.
Kia is very proud of this transmission, built in-house by Kia, stating that it boasts some 143 patented technologies to ensure smooth quick shifting and a minimum of power loss when transferring power to the wheels. Talking of which, the Sorento is available in both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive form. There are two trim levels on offer, the EX and the LX spec. The top EX models feature electrically adjustable front seats and integrated roof rails.
Accessorising your Sorento
If you own a Sorento you will already know that with the third row of seats folded flat, there is some 605 litres of luggage space. However, if the full seven-seater configuration is often in use, the luggage space is naturally compromised. In view of this, we have chosen some accessories from the official Kia catalogue in South Africa that will enhance the lifestyle aspect of the Sorento.
