KIA Sorento 2.2CRDi LS Auto - Quick review

KIA has recently expanded their Sorento offering by including an automatic option in their 2.2-litre turbodiesel LS model.

The external styling remains the same with the unmistakable tiger-nose of the KIA range. The LS model is the entry point for this large SUV from KIA, with relatively basic features. This is not to say that the KIA Sorento LS is poorly equipped, but rather has the specification level to match its sticker price. As much as we’d all like a sunroof, top-level specs such as blind spot assist and a 360-degree camera, most of us have to be satisfied with the basics. The Sorento 2.2CRDi LS Auto is going to give you that, but quite bit more as well.

Interior refinement is not luxurious, but user-friendly and practical, with seemingly hard-wearing surfaces, durable-looking (and feeling) cloth seats and user-friendly controls.

Satellite controls on the steering wheel are available for the infotainment system and vehicle’s status menu, and an active drive mode button controls the Sorento’s different drive modes: Eco, City and Sport.

The LS model is powered by the 2.2CRDi turbodiesel engine and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission which makes for an excellent drive with 150kW and 436Nm, with fuel economy hovering around 7.9l/100km.

The LS-model Sorento is grouped with similar vehicles such as the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Everest and Chevrolet Trailblazer, but unlike those just mentioned, does not have the third row available in the lower-spec models.

The Kia Sorento 2.2 CRDi LS Auto retails for just under R490 000 and is definitely the variant to look into if you don’t need a third row, but need the space and everyday practicality.
