3 Volvo C40 Recharge options you didn't know you needed

Although the C40 pretty much comes with everything on-board (apart from a cappucino machine), there are some boxes you might still like to tick to make your C40 even more perfect.

It's easy to fall in love with the Volvo C40 Recharge. Its svelte silhouette, lifted rear end, slim sickle-effect LED taillights, stunning wheels, cutting-edge technology and blistering acceleration are just a few features that make EV lovers salivate.

The C40 is so well equipped as standard that you might wonder what you could still add to make it even more special. Well, there are some options that we would definitely tick on the list, but many of the items in Volvo's "Build Your C40" arsenal are actually free of charge. So let's see what's available and at what price.

1. Colour: Sage Grey (R5000)

"A greyish green metallic with a trendy, solid look that sparkles up in direct sunlight." - Volvo

If I had to choose an optional colour, it would probably be Sage Green, which costs R5000 like all the other optional colours, but the good news is that the colour choices, namely Vapour Grey and Cloud Blue (my favourite), are free of charge.

2. Charcoal Connect Suede Textile/Microtech in Fjord Blue interior (R3600)

Visually, the Fjord blue just makes the interior more interesting.

If you choose this option, you have to drop the Sage Green colour because the Fjord Blue interior might clash with it. I would choose this interior option because it livens things up beautifully. This option includes a sculpted gear shift and a tailored sport steering wheel in charcoal. (There are other options available too.)

One of our test models on the Volvo C40 launch (2023) had this attractive option specified.

3. Pixel LED headlights (R 25 400)

Struggling to see at night? Spec this option and your dark days are over.

Night blindness is no joke, and even if you can see perfectly well, night driving is still more hazardous than driving during daylight hours. For this reason, Volvo's Pixel LED headlights is something I'd throw my money at. (Here's how much monthly repayments are for the C40 Recharge.)

Volvo's advanced Pixel LED headlight technology constantly changes the pattern of the light to improve your visibility without blinding other drivers. Because of this, you can always drive on full beam, which gives you excellent vision ahead at all times, but not at the expense of oncoming traffic.

When the camera in the C40 sees other cars, the 84 Pixel LEDs in each headlight unit can block out up to five cars at once. By doing this, you can avoid blinding other drivers while still seeing clearly. This feature also comes with fog lamps, which make it easier to see in fog or heavy rain. They can also help with low-speed manoeuvres by lighting up the area near the car in the direction of the steering. Visit the C40 Microsite on Volvo's webpage here.
