Which one should you buy?
1.5T Aspire
The Aspire is designed for those who want the T2’s look and premium tech without the need for off-road mechanicals.
Best for: Daily commutes and mall runs.
Key Features: It features a 15.6-inch touchscreen, a full panoramic sunroof, and a suite of Level 2 ADAS safety tech.
The compromise: It is Front-Wheel Drive and uses a space-saver spare wheel rather than the full-size tailgate mount.
2.0T Xplora XWD
For many, this is the true T2 experience. The R70 000 jump over the Aspire buys you significant mechanical muscle.
Best for: Weekend warriors and gravel-road explorers.
Key Features: You get the XWD Intelligent 4WD system (BorgWarner) and an Electronic Limited Slip Differential (e-LSD). It also comes with a full-size spare wheel in the back, which completes the look.
2.0T Odyssey XWD
If you want the full bells and whistles experience, the Odyssey adds comfort layers to the Xplora's off-road capability.
Best for: Buyers who want many features at a mid-market price point.
Key features: It upgrades to suede/leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, and a 12-speaker Sony surround sound system.
1.5T i-DM PHEV
The newest addition to the family, the i-DM is a powerhouse. With 265 kW and 610 Nm, it is the quickest T2 in the stable.
Best for: Efficiency enthusiasts with a home charging setup.
The Catch: Curiously, the i-DM is front-wheel drive, focusing on high-torque on-road performance and fuel savings (up to 90 km pure electric range) rather than heavy rock crawling.
Aftersales
10-Year / 1 Million km Engine Warranty (for the first owner).
7-Year / 200,000 km Vehicle Warranty.
7-Year / 75 000 km Service Plan.
Verdict
If you just want the look, the Aspire is great value. However, the Xplora XWD is our pick—it offers the best balance of the T2’s go-anywhere spirit and modern tech.
