What is the cheapest Isuzu you can buy?

Isuzu's line-up in SA consists of only two vehicle ranges. The D-MAX bakkie and the mu-X SUV, an SUV rival to the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Everest. Let's check out pricing if you have your heart set on an affordable new or used model.

Isuzu D-MAX

The most affordable Isuzu in the bakkie line-up is the D-Max 250C, a bare-bones single-cab workhorse that is the obvious choice for business owners, farmers, fleet managers or individuals who are counting pennies. It comes in at R318 800 and is the cheapest new Isuzu money can buy at present (see below).

The entry-level model is really basic, so if you want to drive an inexpensive single cab that is well-equipped with safety features, the KB 250 Fleetside Safety is your best bet, but it's considerably pricier at R 373 000. The solution? Look for a used Fleetside Safety model on AutoTrader. They are equipped with ABS, EBD, and stability control, as well as two airbags. No other bakkie in this price range comes close to what Isuzu offers here, not even in the Toyota or Ford stables.  Search for used single cab D-MAX Fleetside Safety bakkies here (but bear in mind that the naming convention may not always be displayed correctly - ask the dealership whether the bakkie you're enquiring about indeed has the safety features we mentioned above).

You can also look at older Isuzu KB Fleetside Safety models if your budget is tight. Search for all used Isuzu KB models here.

This 2021 Isuzu D-MAX Fleetside Safety has 101 km on the clock and is priced at R369 950. Find it in Oakdene, Johannesburg.

Isuzu mu-X

The mu-X is the only Isuzu alternative to the D-Max range. it's built on a ladder-frame chassis and has space for seven. The only difference between the two available models is that one has a low-range transfer case and the other one doesn't.

If you're keen on an Isuzu mu-X (see image below), current models are competitively priced. The outgoing mu-X 3.0 will cost you R695 600 and the Isuzu mu-X 4WD is priced at R770 400. Now is the time to negotiate, as dealers will try to clear stock to make room for the new model.

The brand new Isuzu mu-X is launching on November the 15th 2021 and it's a looker, but for now, you can still buy the current-generation (outgoing) mu-X at the above-mentioned prices.

This beauty is launching in November 2021. Say hello to the brand-new Isuzu mu-X.

If you're not in a position to afford a new or nearly-new Isuzu mu-X, search for used Isuzu mu-X models on AutoTrader. Used models are priced from around R450 000.

Can't afford a mu-X? How about a Chevrolet Trailblazer?

Did you know that today's mu-X used to be known as the Chevrolet Trailblazer? Based on the Isuzu D-Max (itself a clone of the overseas-market Chevy Colorado), the Isuzu mu-X is basically a rebadged version of the second-generation Chevy Trailblazer produced in Thailand and Brazil. (The SA-spec mu-X is built in Thailand.)

There are some incredible bargains to be had! A 2015 model with less than 100 000 km on the clock can be bought for as little as R175 000. If you're in search of cheap, reliable motoring, a Trailblazer may just be the jewel you've been looking for.

You can search for used Chevrolet Trailblazers here.

You can locate authorised service and parts distributors for Chevrolet vehicles here.

This used 2017 Trailblazer 2.8D LTZ may have high kilos, but it's a handsome car, isn't it?
