A new T coming to town
Volkswagen has confirmed its new coupe' styled crossover that is due to be released in South Africa in 2022, will be called the Taigo.
Launched as the Nivus in Brazil last year, the Volkswagen Taigo is, in effect, the T-Cross but with a coupe styled rear roof line that gives it a sportier silhouette.
The vehicle is built on VW Group’s MQB A0 platform for compact cars; it’s the smallest version of Volkswagen's modular chassis architecture and the same structure that underpins both the brand’s T-Cross compact SUV and the current Polo.
What we know about the Nivus, shows us that the Taigo will be slightly longer than the T-Cross at 4,26m long, but its roof line sits around 10mm lower. The Taigo will give customers a more sporty, style-focused small SUV option in VW’s range, serving as a rival for the likes of the Toyota C-HR.
As per Volkswagen's renderings and images of the Nivus, the Taigo will feature LED headlights, a fully digital cockpit, a multitude of driver assistance systems and the latest connectivity tech will be the order of the day.
These rendered images show an R-Line model with a sporty front bumper, featuring a big air intake and gloss black trim inserts, as well as large alloy wheels.
The car’s profile indicates a coupe' roof line at the rear, differentiating the Taigo from its more standard looking T-Cross stablemate, while at the rear a roof spoiler, a full-width LED lighting system and a pair of aggressive exhausts complete the look.
If coupe styled vehicles are up your alleyway then the Taigo might just be what you are looking for and will be worth the wait.
