Confirmed for a local debut in the first half of 2026, the new RAV4 (internally known as the XA60). The RAV4 is the brand's best-selling car globally, and is a strong seller locally. Here's what we know about the local model.
Performance & Electrification
The headline change is the move to 5th and 6th-generation hybrid systems. While local specifications are still being finalised, the range is expected to feature:
- Internal combustion: A 2.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine.
- Mild-Hybrid (HEV): A 2.5-litre petrol engine paired with electric motors, producing roughly 127kW to 174kW depending on the drivetrain.
- Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV): A flagship option delivering up to 227kW, with a significantly improved all-electric range of approximately 100km thanks to a new 22.7kWh battery pack.
Design & Trims
The 2026 model sports a "Hammerhead" front-end design, similar to the new Prius and Crown, making it a new look for local consumers. South Africans can expect three distinct "personalities", which include:

Interior
Inside, the cabin receives a massive digital overhaul. Higher-end models will feature a 12.9-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Expect wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 9-speaker JBL sound system, and the latest Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) 4.0, which introduces features like Front Cross Traffic Alert.
