Toyota recalls over 700 000 vehicles – part 2
By Lawrence Minnie
Following on from an earlier story concerning the recall of 730 000 thousand vehicles sold locally, a statement issued by Toyota SA has also just been issued.
The recall is actually not new and has been in place since early 2005 when Toyota was made aware of the issue with the Takata supplied airbags and is not confined to just Toyota.
Over 770 000 local Toyota and Lexus vehicles, across 10 different models, sold since the beginning of January 2002, may be affected and Toyota SA will contact the owners directly.
If you have since bought a Toyota privately or second-hand, you may not be contacted directly but you do have the following recourse.
1. Contact the Toyota call centre 0800 139 111, with your VIN handy, to check if your vehicle is affected.
2. Check on line at www.Toyota.co.za/recall enter your VIN and check if your vehicle is affected.
3. Download the MyToyota app and be contacted directly.
Toyota SA has also issued an apology to their customers for the inconvenience caused, as customer safety and peace of mind are of the utmost importance to the company.
No injuries or deaths have been reported in South Africa and the recall is a pro- active measure to ensure it stays that way.
