Top 5 safety features on the Mercedes-Benz A-Class
The 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class features several driver-assist systems that are fitted standard across its line-up. That aside, it also benefits from some tech that was perfected on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class flagship sedan. The 2019 A-Class also gets an improved camera and radar systems and makes use of advanced mapping and navigation information to anticipate assistance.
1. Active Brake Assist
This system comes standard on the A-Class. The system is constantly attentive for you and can help prevent serious accidents due to too little distance or inattentiveness. The system then issues a visual and acoustic warning about an impending collision. If you then brake too gently, it provides you with brake force boosting adequate to the corresponding situation. If you do not react the Active Braking Assist does so on your behalf and attempts to diffuse as much energy as possible with an autonomous brake application to minimize the damage that can occur. The system can also brake up to a speed of approx. 60 km/h for stationary vehicles and pedestrians crossing. Depending on the situation this even prevents collisions up to a speed of 50 km/h. Pedestrian and cyclist detection can also help drivers avoid accidents by detecting their hard-to-notice movements. This feature is complemented by Active Emergency Stop Assist.
2. Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC®
This system is another name for adaptive cruise control. This system uses route data to automatically adjust speeds on curves and roundabouts.
3. Active Lane Keeping Assist and Active Lane Change Assist
These two systems are used to warn drivers when they are drifting out of their lane, and in some cases bring the vehicle back into the lane autonomously.
4. PRESAFE® PLUS
Merc's traditional PRESAFE® system does things like closing your windows and tightening your seatbelt to get passengers into the safest position before a collision. Now, there's a PRESAFE® PLUS option that designed to apply the brakes in a rear-end collision situation to minimize further damage.
5. Passive Protection Features
The latest A-Class features several passive safety features that include extensive airbags that even cover the A-pillar and the driver’s knee area. The car also has a rigid structure designed to offer maximum protection to its passengers,
