1. New engine
Jaguar offers both diesel and petrol engines in the XF range. Updated in 2017, the Jaguar XF now offers a new 221 kW 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium petrol powerplant with advanced engine technology that delivers traditional Jaguar performance allied to impressive efficiency. The engine produces 400 Nm of torque which allows the XF to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. Claimed fuel consumption was measured at 6.8 l/100km while CO2 emissions were measured at 153 g/km.
2. Size
The latest XF is 4,954 mm long: at 2,960 the wheelbase is 51 mm longer than before, the front overhang 66 mm shorter. Though 7 mm shorter and 3 mm lower than the original XF, rear-seat space is class-leading thanks to 15 mm more legroom, 24 mm more knee room and up to 27 mm more headroom than before. Aerodynamically it is also superior: the drag coefficient drops from 0.29 to just 0.26.
3. Connectivity
Infotainment and connectivity have also been updated with the last revisions. The latest XF features Jaguar’s InControl Touch system, first introduced in the Jaguar XE, offering drivers the ability to connect their smartphones via Bluetooth or USB for seamless media playback. The system also supports hands-free telephone calls as well as control of the vehicle’s parking cameras (where fitted).
To minimise driver distraction the XF now offers a colour laser head-up display. Compared to competitor systems, this technology is smaller, lighter, and generates high-contrast images that are easier to read in strong sunlight.
4. LED Headlights
The latest version of the XF was the first Jaguar to offer adaptive full-LED headlights. The XF features two banks of LEDs and reflectors of which one is used for the dipped beam and the other for the main beam. They generate light with a colour temperature closer to that of daylight than is achievable with Xenon lights, delivering better illumination. They have been developed to be so efficient that not only has energy consumption been reduced, but cooling fans are also not needed as opposed to the first-generation designs.
Along with the high-beam assist function, the stereo camera on the XF will detect other vehicles in the distance. The headlights will then be dipped automatically when necessary to avoid dazzling drivers on the oncoming side.
