Mercedes-Benz arrived at the Japan Mobility Show (JMS) with an eclectic mix of vehicles, from luxury roadsters to everyday EVs to electric supercars. The German automaker’s stand was a significant draw, blending cutting-edge electric efficiency, bespoke Maybach craftsmanship, and impressive performance.

Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series

Luxury was on full display with the exclusive Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series. This special-edition roadster elevates the iconic SL to the level of Maybach opulence, merging a racing heritage with ultimate indulgence.

  • Bespoke craftsmanship: The car features a two-tone white and black finish, highlighted by a custom-designed hood and soft-top intricately patterned with the sophisticated Maybach monogram. The upright Mercedes star and chrome accents underscore its exclusivity.

  • V8 Power with Maybach tuning: Powered by a V8 engine, the Monogram Series is said to offer strong yet refined performance. Its specially tuned suspension and lavish, crystal-white leather interior guarantee supreme comfort even with the top down.

All-new electric CLA

Positioned as the brand's next major step into the electric compact segment was the new electric CLA. The sleek sedan’s design is defined by an aerodynamically efficient silhouette and its new signature electric grille, complete with an illuminated three-pointed star pattern. This model is engineered for impressive range and efficiency, making it an ideal choice for the premium EV market. The new Mercedes-Benz CLA is poised to arrive in South Africa in early 2026, with the petrol mild-hybrid (MHEV) version expected to be the initial local offering

AMG Concept GT XX Era

A vivid Orange High-Performance Sports Car (likely a limited-run model like the Sorano, showcased with the AMG lineup) added a dynamic burst of colour to the display. With its aggressive bodywork and race-inspired design, this visceral showpiece served as the perfect visual metaphor for Mercedes-AMG's incredible future.

However, the true technological thunder belongs to the program it represents: the Mercedes-AMG Concept GT XX.

  • Electric Hyper-Performance: The Concept GT XX is a four-door, all-electric super sports car that is a technological testbed for the brand's next generation of high-performance electric vehicles.

  • Revolutionary Power: Tipped to feature a tri-motor setup with innovative YASA axial-flux motor technology, the Concept GT XX is engineered to deliver over 1 000 kW. This next-generation drivetrain promises a new benchmark in electric acceleration and repeatable performance.

  • Charging: The concept is a pioneer in ultra-fast charging, focusing on dramatically reducing battery recharge times.
