Exterior
There's no denying that the CLE is a beautiful car, and in AMG 53 guise, the model looks even more aggressive. This is a beautiful car, with a long bonnet punctuated by two powerful "power domes," a steeply raked windshield, and an elongated roofline that gracefully tapers to the rear, coupled with its muscular arches!
Interior
Inside the CLE 53 is the latest-generation MBUX infotainment system with a free-standing 12.3-inch digital driver display and an 11.9-inch central display. There's also dynamic ambient lighting, with 64 colours, which sweeps from the centre console to the ventilation vents and along the door contours. The sports seats are trimmed in Artico man-made leather and black microfibre with AMG-specific graphics and striking red contrasting topstitching. There are red seat belts and glossy carbon trim that complete the performance-oriented aesthetic. Optional AMG Performance seats offer more pronounced bolsters for superior lateral support. A flat-bottomed AMG Performance steering wheel is standard, too.
Drivetrain
The new CLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupé is powered by an upgraded version of the 3.0-litre M256 inline six-cylinder turbo engine, now known as the M256M. This generation boasts optimised combustion chambers, redesigned inlet and outlet channels, new piston rings, refined injection, and a new exhaust gas turbocharger. In conjunction with the improved electric additional compressor, boost pressure has been increased by 0.4 bar to 1.5 bar, resulting in the higher torque figures.
A sophisticated double-charging system featuring an exhaust gas turbocharger and an electric additional compressor, this powerhouse now churns out a formidable 330kW and 560Nm, with an overboost function temporarily unleashing 600Nm for 12 seconds. The integrated starter generator provides a brief burst of an additional 17 kW of power and 205 Nm of torque, while also powering the 48-volt onboard electrical system. The AMG's Speedshift TCT 9G transmission sends power to all four wheels and the 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system.
The electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h can be increased to 270 km/h with the optional AMG Driver's Package. The AMG high-performance brake system is perfectly matched to the car's capabilities, featuring perforated and internally ventilated 370 x 36 mm discs with four-piston fixed callipers at the front, and internally ventilated 360 x 26 mm discs with single-piston floating callipers at the rear.
Suspension and Rear-Axle Steering
The AMG Ride Control features a revised spring-damper set-up and adaptive adjustable damping. Drivers can preselect damper characteristics in three levels: "Comfort," "Sport," and "Sport+". The three-stage AMG speed-sensitive steering adapts to the selected driving programme. At lower speeds, minimal effort is required for manoeuvring and parking, while at higher speeds, the driver receives more feedback, especially in "Sport" and "Sport+" suspension settings.
Rear-axle steering with a maximum steering angle of 2.5 degrees is standard. At speeds up to 100 km/h, the rear wheels turn opposite the front wheels, shortening the wheelbase for quicker turn-in, reducing steering effort, and increasing manoeuvrability. Above 100 km/h, the rear wheels turn parallel to the front wheels (up to 0.7 degrees), extending the wheelbase.
AMG Dynamic Plus Package
The optional AMG Dynamic Plus package bundles a host of equipment details. Highlights include the Race driving programme with Drift Mode, an AMG Performance steering wheel and red-painted brake callipers with AMG lettering.
