The BAIC X55 1.5T is an impressive new Chinese vehicle which launched in 2022, and local buyers are loving its svelte design and impressive list of standard features, but mostly, its attractive price is what's making people sit up and take notice.
When parents buy cars, space, safety and convenience features are at the top of the list, so let's see if the X55 cuts the mustard.
Boot space
The X55's boot is capable of swallowing 350 litres which is on par for the segment. The absence of a lip makes loading a baby buggy or pram into it, child's play.

Space on the rear bench
Leg- and elbowroom on the second row is sufficient for two to three of your favourite family members and there's plenty of legroom too. The cabin is sophisticated, the seats are comfortable and the materials used are top-notch. There are Isofix child seat anchorage points on the outer rear seats.

Verdict
The X55 is the perfect car for families, but since we haven't spent much time in one yet, and haven't received any customer feedback from anyone who has owned an X55 for longer than a few months, only time will tell how reliable the X55 will be in the long run. We also don't have enough experience with the brand to comment on aftersales service, but BAIC's ties with Daimler (the brand has a 9.55% stake in BAIC Motors Hong Kong), definitely helps to put our minds at rest.
The X55 has a 5-year /150 000 km warranty but the 5-year/60 000 km service plan is optional.
