How to top up screen wash on a Mercedes-AMG GLC

One of the few DIY chores you can safely do on a Mercedes-AMG GLC is to top up the windscreen washer bottle. Here we show you how.

Automotive News

The Mercedes-AMG GLC is one stylish piece of automotive kit!

The Mercedes-AMG GLC is a high performance SUV available in both two-box, full-size SUV form and in SUV coupe form.  The GLC has gained plenty of popularity amongst those that can afford to splash out on a very special motorcar.

The AMG-built  GLC  and GLC Coupe comes with two excellent petrol  engines. The first of these,  in the GLC43,  is  a 3,0-litre V6 twin turbo producing 287 kW and 520 Nm of torque. The high-powered GLC63 S  employs  a 4,0-litre V8 turbo pumping out 375 kW and 700 Nm of torque.

The V8 version of Mercedes-AMG GLC Coupe, known as the GLC63 S,  will accelerate to 100 in just 3,8 seconds and has a top speed of 280 km/h! This means it has near-supercar performance in a package that can accept a family of five.

All versions of the Mercedes-AMG GLC employ the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system.

Locating the windscreen washer bottle

The screen washer bottle is tucked almost out of view on the right-rear side of the engine bay (when viewing the car from the front).

  • With space at a premium in the GLC Coupe engine compartment, the windscreen washer bottle is at first quite difficult to locate.
  • When standing in front of the vehicle with the bonnet open, the washer bottle is located at the far right hand corner of the engine bay.
  • It is tucked into a recess between the firewall and the front fender.
  • The easiest way to spot it is to move along the side of the front fender, closer to the windscreen, and then it will be quite accessible.

The bottle is identified by a blue cap

The washer bottle cap is bright blue, and you can find it in a niche between the front fender and the firewall of the engine bay. Use your thumb to flip open the cap.

  • The screen washer bottle is identified by a bright blue cap.
  • On this plastic cap it also has a logo depicting a screen with water droplets.
  • This is the standard logo or motif used for all windscreen washer bottles.
  • The windscreen washer bottle is the only fluid receptacle to have a bright blue plastic cap.

Topping up

Top up with clear water until the level is just below the top of the bottle neck.

  • The cap can be opened without tools.
  • Simply insert your thumb under the tab on the end of the cap and flip it open.
  • The cap is attached to the bottle neck by a plastic ring, which prevents it from falling down where it shouldn’t!
  • Top up the bottle slowly with clean water until you can see the water level rise to just below the top.
  • Flip the cap back in place and make sure it is securely closed. The screen washer is activated by pushing on the windscreen wiper arm.
