Ford EcoSport Models Recalled for Potential Transmission Issue

Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) has announced a safety recall for specific Ford EcoSport models manufactured between April 2021 and July 2022. The recall addresses a potential concern with the front half shafts, which may not have been fully inserted into the transmission during assembly.

What could happen?

This oversight could lead to the half shaft disengaging from the transmission, potentially losing engine power while driving. Furthermore, if the vehicle is placed in "Park" without the park brake engaged, a vehicle rollaway could occur. Both scenarios significantly increase the risk of an accident.

Some 2 872 vehicles are affected across Southern Africa, comprising 2 806 in South Africa, 25 in Botswana, and 41 in Namibia.

Ford is getting in touch

FMCSA proactively contacts all affected customers, advising them to schedule an appointment with their preferred Ford dealer. Dealers will inspect the vehicles and carry out any necessary repairs at no cost to the customer.

Check if your car is affected
