Everything you need to know about the Mini Clubman

The Clubman is Mini's answer to the station wagon trend, which is highly popular abroad but somewhat out of fashion in SUV-crazy SA. Still, it may suit you if you like to stand out from the crowd. I quite like it - maybe you will too!

Is the Mini Clubman a good car?

It's different—but in a good way! Older MINI models have issues, so if you're buying used, make sure you're covered with a good service/maintenance plan.

Find out what is covered under the Mini Clubman's warranty.

Who is the Mini Clubman a good car for?

The Clubman, a 6-door mini-wagon, is a good car for someone who wants more practicality than the average hatchback but isn't keen on an SUV. It's an individualist's car—someone who doesn't follow the norm but still needs that extra space in a fun-to-drive car.

Is the Mini Clubman a good first car?

It's a great first car - but be careful, as older Minis have a tendency to break down and upkeep can become pricey. Even better if someone in your family can afford a new or lightly used one still within its warranty/maintenance plan.

Find out what the top 5 safety features are on the Mini Clubman.

Is the Clubman a good family car?

It's a great little family car, with the added bonus of usable rear space and European-standard safety features. It's built on the same platform as the BMW X1.

What’s it like to drive?

Reviewer's opinion

The JCW Clubman is even lower to the ground than the ‘regular’ Clubman and as much as I liked driving it and enjoyed the extra power, the Clubman S  will do just fine -  mostly because it’s significantly cheaper with not that much difference in spec level. Even though the Clubman’s odd shape makes it very practical, it’s not exactly what I’d call sexy. With its black paint job and darkly-tinted windows, it looks slightly hearse-like from the side, but it’s saved by its cute rear lights and barn-style doors. If you’re looking for a performance hatch with sex appeal, there’s a wide range of yummier-looking cars in this performance/price range. I felt the seats needed more lumbar support as well - after about 45 minutes of driving, I wanted to get out and stretch my legs and back.
