Is the Hyundai i20 a good car?

The Hyundai i20 enjoy a rock-solid reputation and its parts are easy to find, its services are affordable, and all Hyundai models benefit from the brand's 5-year warranty and 7-year powertrain warranty.

The latest Hyundai i20 is now in its third generation, brand-spanking new, and it looks like a rock star compared to the earlier models.

Who is the Hyundai i20 a good car for?

It's aimed at everyone in need of a stylish hatch that is a step up from entry-level cars such as the Hyundai Atos and the larger Hyundai i10.

Is the Hyundai i20 a good first car?

It certainly makes a good first buy, although new models are a little pricey for most first-time buyers. Used models will be more easily attainable. Look for lightly-used second-generation models for the best value. Or, if you can, wait for a new third-gen (latest) demo model. It all depends on your budget; first-generation models are also known to be quite reliable.

Is the Hyundai i20 a good family car?

The Hyundai i20 is a decently-sized hatchback, and it suits small families well. Safety kit on all models includes ABS, EBD, 6 x airbags (on Fluid models only; Motion models get 2), front fog lamps, park distance control, a rearview camera, daytime running lamps, ISOFIX anchorage points for child seats, steering wheel controls, and a touchscreen with wireless smartphone mirroring (Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto). 2 x USB ports are to be found in the front, while Fluid models have an additional USB port in the back, and even rear air vents. (Child locks are standard too.)

The boot offers a generous 311 litres.

Is there a Hybrid Hyundai i20?

Not in SA.

What’s it like to drive?

Reviewer's opinion

"The new i20 gets a firmer suspension that lends itself to a much more planted road feel. There is a bit of lag in the low rev-range but picks up significantly once the turbo spools making the small 3-pot engine quite rev happy. You get quite a spirited drive when pushing this hatch and a tasty engine note to boot, but bumper-to-bumper traffic becomes tiresome due to constant gear changes with the manual option."

This 'paddle design' makes the interior stand out, while the touchscreen offers customers multiple functions for the sound and infotainment system, according to Hyundai SA.

“The all-new i20 features our new Sensuous Sportiness design identity. We enhanced the proportions to create a dynamic and emotional design. As a result, the all-new i20 is a car that speaks to your senses,” says Thomas Bürkle, chief designer at the Hyundai Motor Company’s Design Centre in Rüsselsheim, Germany.
