Chery's Omoda now in SA!

Chery is enjoying an unprecedented amount of success within the local market, and now its sub-brand Omoda is here!

Automotive News

Having made a massively successful return to the local market, with the Tiggo 4 Pro now in the top 10 in terms of monthly vehicle sales, Chery is flying high in the local market. It aims to continue this growth with the introduction of its Omoda brand which it showcased in Johannesburg recently in the form of the C5. What is Omoda?

The marketing material surrounding the Omoda name states that the "O" stands for oxygen while the "MODA" refers to the modernity of that brand, so make of that what you will. This interpretation aside, expect Omoda-badged models to replace the Tiggo models within Chery's line-up in the coming months and years.

The C5

Despite sharing a name with a certain discontinued Citroen, the C5 appears to be an entirely different proposition from what was once offered by the French marque. The C5's underpinnings are Chery's TX1 platform, and it is said to be powered by the same 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine and dual-clutch gearbox as seen in the Tiggo 8 Pro models, however, it produces 147kW and 290Nm of torque in this guise.

When will it be available?

Chery has stated that the Omoda C will be available during April across 30 dealers nationwide. The brand has introduced a pre-order campaign at omoda.co.za/pre-order which is open to 100 customers. Those who pre-order will receive a promotional package that includes a R10 000 voucher,  "first edition" decals on the vehicle as well as a pair of branded sneakers. The brand has stated that the deposit required for the pre-order process is fully refundable.
