1. When is the best time to buy a used car?

“When is the best time, probably January, February when vehicles are coming in is probably the best time. Because, there is quite a bit of stock and if you keep on looking around, you do find good deals.”

2. How many kilometres is too high for a used car?

“It depends on the year and model, but generally anything more than 50,000kms is going to start aging. It's likely going to need some TLC especially if it is out of motorplan.”

3. What are your final tips for anyone looking to buy a used car in Cape Town?

“Know what you can afford. I suppose the biggest question we get is how much do you have to earn to qualify for a vehicle? And that's usually about 28% of your salary. The bank will indicate a yardstick as to what you can afford. So that's probably the single biggest thing. So you can save a lot of time by narrowing down your options based on your affordability."
