The Volkswagen Golf 8 R has been delayed for the South African market largely due to production constraints and parts shortages according to Volkswagen South Africa. However, that is now in the past and the vehicle is officially here to play in the performance segment.
What do you get and for how much?
The Golf 8 R unleashes 235 kW of power and 400 Nm of torque sent through to all four wheels via a DSG automatic gearbox. The Golf 8 R propels itself from 0-100kmh in just 4.8s with a top speed of 250kmh. As standard, you'll get a panoramic sunroof, keyless entry with safelock, and the Discover Pro navigation system complete with Wireless App Connect and Voice Control. You also get Nappa leather sports seats, driver profile selection with Adaptive Chassis Control, Light and Vision package. On the exterior aesthetic side of things, you get 19-inch Estoril alloy wheels and a choice of 3 colours namely Pure White, Lapiz Blue and Deep Black Pearl.
Starting price for the Volkswagen Golf 8 R will be R912 800. This price also includes a 5-year /100 000km EasyDrive Maintenance Plan, 3-year/120 000km warranty and a 12-year anti-corrosion warranty.

Optionally, you include the following: A heads up display, Harmon Kardon sound system and IQ. Light LED Matrix headlights. On the safety side of things, you can option in Parallel Park Assist with a rearview camera, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert, Travel Assist with Lane Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Autonomous Emergency Braking. If you want a bit more poke and noise there's an Akrapovič R Performance exhaust and Black Performance package which includes drift mode, an increased top to 270kmh and black 19-inch Estoril Wheels.
