Unveiled earlier this year at the 87th Geneva International Motor Show, an exclusive limited run special edition i8 has arrived. Twelve models of the exclusive BMW i8 Protonic Frozen Black Edition is now available in South Africa.

The Protonic Frozen Black Edition is the second of its kind, following in the steps of the Protonic Red Edition that was released in 2016.

The special-edition i8 will be rolling on 20 inch W-spoked light alloy rims. And it probably goes without saying that its paintwork will have BMW’s Individual Protonic Frozen Black finish which will include Frozen Grey metallic highlights.

In the cabin, exclusive trim includes dark Neso seats with woven yellow and anthracite (dark grey) stitching. The headrest has the BMW i8 logo embossed accompanied by grey safety belts. The floor mats also have black leather piping and yellow highlights while the door sills will have the Edition lettering on its aluminum plate. Not forgetting, the gear shift lever and central control unit are covered in black ceramic.

Later this year, three of the BMW i8 Protonic Frozen Yellow Edition models will also make its way here.

The limited edition models run on the standard, internationally awarded, three-cylinder combustion engine. The rear wheels are propelled by the 170 kW engine while a 96 kW electric motor draws energy from the lithium-ion battery. It has a low range of 37 kilometres and manages a top speed of 120 km/h on pure electric power.

The BMW i8 has been the most successful PHEV in its segment having sold 228 models since its introduction in 2015.

BMW will soon be welcoming its third member to its i family. The virtually silent and zero local emissions vehicle can now be enjoyed with the pleasure of an open-top. The BMW i8 Roadster is due for launch in 2018.
