BMW revealed SA pricing of i3 and i8

BMW revealed SA pricing of the much-anticipated and much discussed new BMW i3 and BMW i8.

The BMW i3 is available in either pure electric model at R 525 000, or the i3 Range Extender (or REx) with electric motor supplemented by a tiny 2-cylinder engine which acts as generator to re-charge the battery when needed, selling for R 595 000.

The BMW i8 is the high-performance sports car hybrid, using a 3-cylinder 1.5 turbo and powerful electric motor, for 0-100km/h acceleration possible in 4.4 seconds, yet using only 2.1 l/100km combined.  It sells for R 1 775 000.
