Latest Information on Ford Sapphire
The Sapphire name was lifted by Ford in 1987 when the Ford Sierra received a major facelift. In addition to the facelift was the addition of a four-door sedan which, in the UK, was marketed as the Sierra Sapphire. The Sapphire was sold alongside the hatchback and estate Sierra models until it was succeeded by the Mondeo in 1993. The Sierra’s available in SA had a range of engines which include the 1.6 (Kent), the four-cylinder 2.0 (Pinto), the 2.3-litre V6 (Cologne) and the 3.0-litre V6 (Essex) petrol. Trims available were the LX, GL and GLX. The Ghia trim level was not available in SA.
