If you choose not to trade in or sell your bike to a dealership, selling your bike privately can be fraught with pitfalls if you don't know your responsibilities as a seller. These aren't that many, but they are critically important!

As a seller, you need to be completely transparent with the buyer and tell them everything related to the bike, such as accident and/or service history, mechanical faults, etc. This is especially important if you are opting to forego the roadworthy certificate, but is it legally required to supply the buyer with one?

The answer is a bit muddy because it depends on the buyer and seller's sale agreement. If the seller specifies that no RWC (Roadworthy Certificate) is included, then the buyer will need to run the machine through a roadworthy test themselves. The seller is not legally required to supply an RWC, but a certificate is required to complete the change of ownership paperwork and obtain a new license disc.
Very often, the buyer will not want to go through the hassle of doing the roadworthy themselves and will opt to buy a bike that has one supplied by the seller. Sellers may want to consider including the roadworthy with their sale to increase the potential of selling the machine.
