Apache Attack!
TVS may not be a name that many South African bikers are familiar with but as we recently discovered during a test of the Apache 310 RR machine, are a force to be reckoned with in the East. These machines are the peak of what is on offer in the region and we can confirm that as far as build quality and features go, the TVS range deserves that reputation.

As we revealed before, the TVS makes use of the same underpinnings as the BMW 310 and if the Bavarians employ it then it must be good. TVS has just unveiled the latest addition to their 310 lineup at the launch in Bangkok, the aggressive-looking streetfighter the RTR 310, and from what we can tell, it is packed with even more tech and features than the RR that we tested.
Highly Stylised
The TVS Apache RTR 310 leads in innovation right from the get-go with its unique design, powerful engine, and many differentiated technologies that are focused on rider engagement, safety, and comfort. The aggressive streetfighter design is eye-catching in its range of colours and the race-inspired Sepang Blue scheme is immediately recognisable. The Apache RTR 310 boasts of 12 exclusive accessories including knuckle guards, a windscreen, a pannier and top box kit as well as 14 types of rider and lifestyle merchandise for the customers to choose from.
The exposed Hyper Spec trellis frame and unique lightweight aluminium subframe, embody an exoskeletal look that alludes to the bike's agility and the all-new lightweight 8-spoke dual-coloured alloy wheels enhance the racey style. Further accentuating the look is a set of sporty steel tapered handlebars to give the rider precise control and the machine’s ergonomics are optimized for better load distribution to give excellent steering control and good lower back comfort during long rides. The adjustable hand levers provide 4 levels of adjustment for increased accessibility for diverse riding styles.
Feature tech
The RTR has blown open the segment by including a laundry list of standard features that manufacturers have long left off of sub 400cc machines. These include but are not limited to:
- Cruise Control
- Dynamic Class D LED Headlamp
- Dynamic LED Brake Lamp
- 5 Ride Modes including the new Supermoto Mode
- Climatic Control Seats (Heating and Cooling)
- 5” TFT Cluster with GoPro Control, Music Control, Voice Assist, Smart Helmet Device Connectivity, Telephony and Navigation
- Bidirectional Quickshifter
- Tire Pressure Monitoring System
The RTR is also equipped with a Race Tuned Dynamic Stability Control with 6D IMU that allows for:
- Cornering ABS
- Cornering Traction Control
- Cornering Cruise Control
- Wheelie Control
- Slope Dependent Control
- Rear Lift-off Control
Coming to a showroom near you
Although TVS South Africa has yet to confirm arrival and pricing, the RTR will be coming to a distributor near you, and if it is anywhere near as good as the RR, those shopping in the sub 400cc category are definitely going to want to give this a try!
