We take a closer look at Challenger Tractors and their latest MT600C offering

Few farm equipment companies have achieved prominence as swiftly as Challenger. In just a few years, Challenger has become synonymous with quality and service, especially among professional and commercial producers who account for 75 percent of the world’s commodity production. It’s no surprise that Challenger is the fastest-growing equipment brand in North America.

The Challenger Story

The journey began in March 2002 when AGCO Corporation acquired the esteemed Challenger line of track tractors from Caterpillar and expanded it into a comprehensive line of serious farm machinery.

Today, the Challenger brand boasts a robust line of wheel tractors ranging from 18 to 240 PTO HP, a premium family of hay equipment, and two of the most reliable and productive combines available. We continue to offer the world’s most innovative and advanced track tractors, all built to the industry’s toughest standards.

But we didn't stop there. We've partnered with Caterpillar – renowned for building and servicing track tractors since 1987 – and leveraged CAT’s dealer network to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction. No one commands more respect for integrity, in-field service, and parts support than the Cat dealer network.

Quality products supported by exceptional dealer service are the cornerstone of modern farming. Challenger delivers this, now and in the future.

The Design Evolution of the MT600C Series

The MT600C Series has undergone significant design improvements, resulting in up to a 15 percent decrease in fuel consumption. The new AGCO SISU POWER 8.4CTA six-cylinder turbocharged engine is central to this fuel efficiency.

1. Key Engine Features

  • Effective Cooling: Wet cylinder liners and charge air cooling provide more effective cooling at the top of the cylinder, where it is most critical.
  • Enhanced Strength: Cylinder head bolts are positioned in a circular pattern around the top of each cylinder for greater strength.
  • Smoother Operation: Piston connecting rods are individually balanced for smoother operation and longer life.
  • Ideal Combustion: The latest cross-flow design technology includes cast inlet channels and combustion chambers to ensure ideal combustion.
  • Precise Throttle Response: The Bosch electronic fuel injection pump offers quick and precise response to throttle movements.
  • Efficient Cooling: A viscous fan drive with an internal clutch responds to engine temperature for economical yet efficient engine cooling.
  • Reduced Vibration and Noise: Mid-support of the cylinder liners reduces vibration by 75 percent, decreasing engine noise and wear on cylinders and cylinder liners.

2. Emission Technology

The MT600C Series tractors incorporate emission technology that meets upcoming EPA standards while maintaining power, productivity, and operating cost efficiency.

3. TechStar CVT: Industry-Leading Transmission

The TechStar CVT is a leader in the industry, backed by over 15 years of research and more than 50,000 CVT transmissions in service worldwide.

TechStar CVT Features

  • Fewer Moving Parts: The transmission has the fewest moving parts of any stepless or powershift transmission, enhancing longevity and resale value.
  • Separate Oil Reservoir: Isolates the transmission from hydraulic remotes, reducing contamination risk.
  • Service-Friendly Design: This allows Challenger service technicians to perform diagnostics using the AGCO EDT, an electronic diagnostic tool.
  • Field Cruise Speeds: Ability to set four field cruise speeds—two in each range—at the push of a button on the console.

4. Operating Modes of the TechStar CVT

The TechStar CVT is simple to operate by adjusting the throttle and speed control lever. It has multiple modes to enhance efficiency and productivity.

Pedal Mode

  • Hands-Free Operation: Switch to “Pedal Mode” via the TMC console, allowing both hands to remain free.
  • Engine and Transmission Adjustment: Both engine speed and transmission ratio adjust to increase ground speed.

Forager Mode

  • Speed Control: Maintain a specified engine speed while using the foot pedal to control ground speed, ideal for loader work or forage harvesting.

Power Management Mode

  • Efficient Settings: Engine and transmission collaborate to find the most efficient settings.
  • Automatic Throttling: The engine automatically throttles back when less power is needed, saving fuel and reducing engine noise. It increases speed when encountering heavy loads or uphill grades.

5. Kick-Back Comfort

Standard AirRide Seat

  • Smooth Ride: The AirRide seat provides a smooth ride with standard adjustments including height and suspension, fore and aft seat position, lumbar support, and back tilt position.

Deluxe Seat

  • Enhanced Comfort: Upgrade to the optional semi-active, heated VRS operator seat, featuring innovative computer technology.
  • Leather Cushion Option: This seat, available with a leather cushion option, uses a specially tuned damping system for continuous real-time automatic damping force based on terrain inputs.
