New innovation from Fendt with the Cargo T955
Unveiled at the Agritechnica show (Germany) in November last year, Fendt introduced a new take on what is traditionally called a telehandler or telescopic handler. This new machine brings with it new innovations, while remaining unmistakably Fendt
What is a telescopic handler?
A telescopic handler, also called a telehandler, is a reach forklift (also known as a boom lift). This machine type is widely used in agriculture and various other industrial applications. Think of it as something like a forklift and a crane, but in one package. The combination of both these elements add to the versatility of the concept. Fendt has however added a revolutionary new feature, which has set their offering apart from the competition.
The Fendt Cargo T955
Much like traditional telehandlers, the Fendt Cargo T955 also features an extendable boom lift. However, the company has added a new feature in the form of a lifting cab. On traditional lifters the cab is fixed, but on the Cargo T955 the cab can raise up. This gives operators a better overview, because the cab can be elevated up to 4.25m, so you can clearly see where you are loading.
Also, the cabin is damped so it’s very comfortable for the operator, while safety equipment is enhanced at the same time. The Fendt Cargo T955 is the first to combine the best features of a telehandler and a wheel loader, and is perfectly equipped with a range of clever details to meet most farming requirements. According to the company, the machine can lift 5.5t, and its maximum lift height is 8.5m. The Cargo T955 is apparently just the first of several Fendt-badged telescopic handlers still to arrive.
9 stand out features you can expect on the Fendt Cargo T955:
1. Unique, high-speed and vibration-dampened cab for perfect 360° all-round visibility and a unique view of the working tool.
2. Solid and durable construction for maximum reliability.
3. Strong telescopic arm with centring and lateral guidance.
4. Enormous breakaway torque, approaching wheel loader proportions.
5. Small turning radius despite its long wheelbase.
6. Powerful, step-less transmission.
7. Powerful hydraulic system, giving fluid flow of around 200 l/min.
8. 100% differential lock and levelling.
9. Large diesel tank.
Inside the new cab
Just two steps and you are inside the cab. The spacious cabin of the Fendt Cargo T955 sets new standards in the telehandler class. Operators can use the foot pedal on the move to continuously raise the cab up to 4.2m on the visual axis.
The cab offers operators a clear view to fill high-sided vehicles. The floor-to-ceiling safety glass windscreen also helps improve on the safety aspects on offer. Due to the slim steering column, there's nothing to obstruct your view. The hydraulic cylinder which lifts up the cabin is also equipped with a nitrogen bubble to absorb shocks while in operation, for improved ride quality while on the job.
Stepless drive
The stepless drive of the Fendt Cargo T955 consists of an axial piston adjustment pump, driven directly by the diesel engine. It detects the accelerator pedal position, and swivels out depending on the diesel engine speed. Monitoring the swing angle, it sends hydraulic oil to the travel motor in the CompactDrive transmission, which, depending on the load, uses hydraulic pressure to generate either a high speed (fast driving speed) or a lot of torque (driving on a slope or into crops).
