The newly face lifted Ford Focus Sedan hit showrooms recently and we received the 1.5l turbo charged Eco Boost Trend 4 door model to test.

Appearance

We were greeted with a few small changes on the outside with new tail lights a new rear bumper and of course the entire front end had received some surgery. Around the front there were some newly styled head lamps, a fresh new bumper and Fords new shutter style grille. A set of 16 inch alloy wheels completed the package. This left the vehicle rather bland and I would recommend springing for the trend styling pack to better the looks outside.

Interior

The interior has also seen an update with the Sync system. Gone are the cluttered difficult to use multitude of buttons and in there place a sleek new design. The new layout of the controls makes the Sync Bluetooth system with voice control and 4.2 inch dot matrix display look less like a complicated telephone switchboard and more like the fascia panel from a proper high end car. You will also get Fords Audio system with six speakers. The centre console sees a USB input and 12v output. Safety is key in the Focus and you’ll find dual front, side and curtain airbags. The Focus is also fitted with all the standard electronic safety wizardry, anti lock brakes (ABS), Electronic brake force distribution (EBD and electronic stability programme (ESP).
You will also get electronic power assisted steering (EPAS) and hill launch assist (HLA), cruise control and electric windows front and rear.

Engine

The Ford Focus sedan is now available with 2 new engines. The 3 cylinder 1.0l turbocharged Ecoboost that makes 92kW and 170Nm and the 1.5l 4 cylinder that we had on test that makes 132kW and 240Nm, making this by far the most powerful car in this segment. Coupled to a 6 speed manual the drive was fantastically smooth and compliant. The Trend 4 door sedan also comes out with an auto transmission and if its anywhere near as good as the manual it should make for an interesting drive.

Drive

The Focus sedan was an absolute pleasure to drive. Subtle styling with just enough power to get around town in relative comfort. Although the other manufacturers give you more in terms of conveniences and interior styling the Trend has a lot more power and space than its closest rivals.
