Why does a tyre keep going flat

If you have a tyre on your car that keeps going flat it may be for a number of reasons.

The first is a puncture. Punctures occur when a foreign object penetrates the rubber layers causing air to escape. These can be from nail, screws, bits of metal, shards of glass, bits of wood or even tree roots. The best thing to do is head to your local tyre shop have them remove the tyre and repair the puncture.

An impact with a pothole or kerb can also damage the construction of the tyre.

Repair is not an option here and you will have to replace it.

Leaky tyre valves are the most common cause of continuous tyre deflation. The mechanism inside the valve becomes faulty and allows air to escape, it’s a reasonable quick repair that can be done by your local tyre shop.

The final item is highly unlikely but does occur and that is pin holes in the wheel itself.. Here the only option is to replace the wheel.
