Where can you dispose of a car battery?

Replacing a car battery is a relatively easy job and is simple enough to be tackled by anyone.

When you purchase a new car battery the retailer will often ask you for the old one and will give you a rebate on the trade-in.

There are some retailers that will require you to turn in the old one for recycling.

Almost all car batteries are recycled with the old acid being purified and the lead melted down and turned into new lead ingots.

If you have an old car battery that you wish to dispose of, the best thing to do is to take it to your local battery retailer and they will then send it to a proper recycling facility.

Many scrap dealers won’t accept batteries due to the environmental impact they have when stored in their collection yards.

Even though changing a car battery is a very simple task, it may be a better option to just take your vehicle to a battery service centre and have them replace it for you. They will take out the old one and dispose of it for you, and you will get the rebate on your new battery. In most cases, the fitment charge is included in the cost.
