How to replace the headlight bulb on a Hyundai Grand i10

The Grand i10 is a popular selection from Hyundai SA's current lineup. There are many of them on our roads and they are relatively easy to maintain. We take a look at the process of changing out an old headlight bulb.

Car Ownership

City Stunner

The i10 is Hyundai's entry into brand ownership. It is an awesome city car with tons of attitude. Hyundai has made this small hatch even better by sprucing things up in the Grand model. You get a better interior and a slightly better drive. What stays the same though, are the headlights.

Headlamp bulbs don't last forever and need to be replaced but you don't need to book your car in to have this done. You can tackle this right at home with just a few tools and some elbow grease.

Space is at a premium in the i10 engine bay so you will need to remove the headlight assembly to change out those bulbs but don't let this scare you off, it is easier than it looks!

You will need:

  • Small Phillips screwdriver
  • 10mm socket and driver
  • Replacement bulbs
  • Soft cloth

Lets get started!

  1. Open the bonnet to access the engine bay
  2. Locate the bolts that hold the headlight assembly
  3. Use the 10mm socket to remove the bolts along the housing perimeter
  4. Use the screwdriver to remove the small plastic screw to allow access beneath the radiator cover
  5. Gently pull the headlight forwards and then upwards to release it from the front end of the panel
  6. Unclip the wiring harness from the assembly
  7. Locate the plastic screw cap on the back of the headlight assembly, rotate to unscrew
  8. Unclip the small wire clip that locates the bulb and remove the bulb
  9. Install the new bulb
  10. Re-Install the assembly in reverse order and repeat on the other side.

Pro Tip: DO NOT touch the glass of the bulb as oils from your hands can contaminate the glass and burn into place. If you do touch the glass wipe down with a soft cloth before completing the install.
