C-Class Power
The C-Class Mercedes is something of an institution and multiple generations of them are plying SA's roads. If you are the proud owner of a C-Class from the 2012 model year onwards, your luxury sedan may be in need of a new battery if it is down on its much needed electrical power.
You may want to try your hand at replacing the battery yourself and save a trip to the local battery centre.
We are going to show you where to look and how to go about changing yours in just a few easy steps.
You will need:
- A new battery of correct size and amperage
- 10mm, 13mm, 14mm socket and socket wrench
Let's get started!
- Open the bonnet and locate the plastic cover just below the windscreen.
- Remove the plastic cover by unclipping the 3 clips that hold it down.
- Once the battery is revealed remove the red plastic cover from the positive terminal.
- Using the 10mm socket, remove the negative terminal and then the positive terminal.
- Using the 13mm/ 14mm socket remove the battery hold-down bracket bolt (on the side of the battery)
- Remove old battery carefully
- Install the new battery and replace everything in reverse order.
- Ensure the vents are properly connected.
- Replace the cover
Be sure to test everything before reinstalling all the cover panels to avoid trouble down the line.
