How to replace the car battery on a Honda Civic

You can save yourself some time and money by changing out the battery in your Honda Civic yourself in just a few easy steps. Follow along as we show you how.

 

Civic duty

Unfortunately, car batteries don't last forever and at some point, you will need to replace yours. The Honda Civic does need a constant charge to run at its most efficient and keeping your battery in tip-top shape is a must. You can save yourself some time and money by changing out the old battery yourself. This is a pretty straight forward job that can be done in a matter of minutes with just a few tools and some patience and we will show you how.

You will need:

• New Battery
• Socket wrench, long extension, 10mm socket
• 10mm Wrench

 

Let's get started!

1. Open the bonnet.
2. Locate the battery and remove the plastic terminal covers.
3. Using the socket wrench, long extension and 10mm socket, remove the retaining hooks from the base of the battery.
4. Using the 10mm wrench, remove the negative terminal and then the positive terminal.
5. Remove the battery carefully.
6. Put in the new battery and connect the positive terminal first.
7. Connect the negative terminal.
8. Replace retaining hooks and tighten down.
9. Replace the battery terminal covers.
