Powering the X3
BMW has a very good handle on the luxury mid-size SUV market here in SA with the X3 taking up a huge chunk of their sales. The X3 has been in production since 2004 and is now in its third generation. With so many of these handsome SUV's about they are rather easy to come by. Should you find yourself the proud owner of one of the earlier models, your battery may need to be replaced.

You will need:
- Replacement battery for your year
- 10mm, 12mm socket and driver
- Flat head screwdriver
Let's get it done!
1. Open the rear hatch
2. Lift the luggage area floormat and locate the battery.
3. Remove the power distribution / fuse block clamp using the flat head screw driver.
4. Remove power cables from power distribution / fuse block.
5. Remove the power distribution / fuse block
5, Using the 10mm socket, Remove negative terminal.
6. Remove the positive terminal.
7. Using the 12mm socket, undo and remove the battery hold-down brackets on top off and at the base of the battery.
8. Change out battery.
9. Reassemble everything in reverse.
Depending on the year model you may need to access the onboard computer and reset the battery in the menu so that the ECU recognises that a new battery has been fitted.
