With so much technology on board the 7 series requires a hefty battery that needs to be checked regularly and replaced as soon as the power levels begin dipping, or you may just find your favourite tech no longer functioning.
Replacing the battery is easy enough, but you will need some muscle to wrestle the big battery out of its cradle.
Here's how it's done
You will need:
- Replacement battery for your year and model
- 10mm socket and driver
- 12mm socket
Let's get it done
1. Open the boot
2. Lift the floor carpet to locate the battery
3. Using the 10mm, remove the negative terminal
4. Using the 10mm again, disconnect the positive terminal
5. Using the 12mm, remove the machine screw for the hold down bracket
6. Carefully remove old battery (BE WARNED - ITS HEAVY!)
7. Exchange battery and assemble in reverse order
Make sure that the vent line (if your battery has one) is connected to the fitting on the battery before closing up the boot area.
Some newer models require a battery registration. With some models this can be done within the vehicles onboard computer menu and with some you will need a code reader to reset it from within the ECU.
We highly recommend reading your owners manual to find out which route you need to follow.
