How to replace the car battery in your Ford Focus

The Focus may have gone the way of the Dodo in favour of crossovers and SUVs but there are still plenty available for sale on AutoTrader. Some of these may be due for a new battery and we show you how easy it is to replace it right at home.

Power up!

The Ford Focus may no longer be available as new from Ford SA but there are still plenty of them on the 2nd hand car market. You may have one right now that could be in dire need of a new battery. You can save yourself a trip to your local battery shop and replace yours right at home.

We are going to show you how to do it in a few easy steps with just a few tools and some elbow grease.

You will need:

• New battery
• 10mm,12mm, 13mm, 14mm wrenches (depending on year model)

Let's get started!

1. Using the selection of wrenches, undo and remove the negative battery terminal.
2. Undo and remove positive battery terminal.
3. Loosen and back of the retaining nuts on the bracket holding the battery in place.
4. Remove the hold down bracket
5. You may have some difficulty removing the battery from the plastic box. You will need to unclip the box side to easily remove the old battery.
6. Remove battery and install the new one.
7. Install bolts, tighten down the bracket and replace terminals.
