Light the way

The Mazda RX8 was the successor to the infamous FD RX7. These rotary engine powered sportscars were never overly popular here in SA but there a few that have survived and pop up from time to time. The RX8 was around during the time when most cars were just transitioning to HID style lighting but kept the older halogen style for the first few years that they were on sale.

Replacing the headlight bulbs on an RX8 can be somewhat finicky and requires a deft hand and some patience but can be done without removing the entire front end. Here's how it's done!

You will need:

Replacement H11 bulbs
Plastic rivet removal tool
Phillips screwdriver

Let's get it done

1. Turn the front wheels to full lock

2. Remove the plastic retainers from the wheel well cover

3. Locate the back of the headlight assembly

4. Remove plastic cover

5. Twist to remove bulb

6. Remove wiring plug

7. Exchange bulb

8. Assemble in reverse order

9. Test to ensure proper operation.
