How to replace a lightbulb on a BMW E90 3 Series

Step by Step guide on how to change a light bulb on a BMW E90 3 Series.

Sooner or later, your bulbs will burn out and will need replacing.

TIP: Handle the bulb by its base or use a piece of clean paper when installing.

STEP BY STEP

1. Turn the front wheel inwards(using the steering wheel of course) as far as it'll turn – this is to gain access/clearance.

2. Remove the 2 boltson the lower inner fender. Leave the bolts holding the oil cooler vent in place.

3. Beneath your front bumper, remove the 3 bolts that hold the wheel well in place.

4. Once the corner bolts are removed, you will be able to move the wheel liner enough to gain access to the back of the bulb. Pull the liner back, if it seems like its caught then check for more fasteners.

5. Remove the wire harness connectoron the back of the bulb, it may be difficult at first. Squeeze the ends together and it should pull off. If you’re finding it tricky, then just reposition your hand, press the plug back on, and try again.

Note: you cannot remove the bulb without disconnecting it.

6. Remove the bulb by rotating it counterclockwise in the housing and then remove it by pulling it straight out.

7. Remove the new bulbfrom its packaging but be careful not to touch the bulb with your fingers. If you do touch it, clean your finger oils thoroughly off the glass.

8. Insert the new bulb into the fog light housing. It will only go in one way, so do take note of the different sized prongs and where they fit into the housing.

9. Rotatethe bulb clockwise once in place. The plug should be pointed downward.

10. Simply slide the connector onto the bulb.

11. Ensure the new bulb is functioning by turning on the lights and fog lights.

12. Replace the fender liner back in its rightful place, and ensure you line up the bottom front flaps where they engage the bumper.

13. Install the fastener back into the fender liner. You should have 5 10mm bolts that need to be replaced - 3 on the bottom and 2 in the fender well.
