How to replace a headlight bulb on a MINI Clubman

Replacing headlight bulbs is a quick and easy job that you can do right at home. In this guide, we show you how to replace the standard halogen bulbs in your MINI Clubman.

Burning bright

Almost all MINI models built between 2013 and 2018 come with Halogen bulbs as standard. These bulbs are relatively easy to replace in a short space of time and we have a step by step guide to getting the job done right here. If your MINI is fitted with HID (High Intensity) bulbs this will be a much more expensive exercise but is accomplished in much the same manner.

You will need:

• Replacement bulbs
• 30 minutes

Let's get started!

1. Open the bonnet
2. Locate the back of the headlight cluster in the engine bay.
3. Find the small black covers that protect the back of the bulbs.
4. Remove the covers by pulling on the small tabs.
5. Pull the connector plug down and away from the bulb.
6. Remove the bulb from the housing.
7. Insert the new bulb into the housing ensuring that you do not touch the glass of the bulb, as this leaves an oily residue that burns onto the glass.
8. Replace the connector plug ensuring it clicks into place.
9. Replace the bulb cover and you're done.
10. For the HID units, after removing the black covers you will see a large igniter unit. Gently twist this and it will unclip from the housing.
11. Replace the bulb and install in reverse order of above.
