The Chery J3 has been around for some time now many of these models may be in need of new headlight bulbs. We show you how to tackle this relatively simple task in a few easy steps.

Lighting the way ahead

The Chery J2 Swag edition and J3 were not really that popular in the South African auto scene but there are a few models for sale. They have been around for quite a while and because they don't last forever, may be in need of a fresh set of headlight bulbs.

This task may require a deft hand but it is still simple enough to tackle right at home and we will show you how to replace the headlight bulbs in one of these cars.

You will need:

  • Correct replacement bulbs (main or dipped beam)
  • Phillips head screwdriver + Flat head screwdriver

Let's get started!

  1. Ensure that the vehicle is off and no power is going to the headlight circuit
  2. Open the bonnet
  3. If replacing the right-hand side you will need to remove the washer reservoir to gain access to the back of the headlight casing.
  4. If replacing the left-hand side you will need to remove the air filter housing to gain access to the back of the headlight casing.
  5. Remove the rubber dust cover
  6. Pull back the plug that powers the bulb and remove it.
  7. Remove the retaining clip and extract the old bulb.
  8. Without touching the glass of the new bulb, install and reassemble in reverse order.

PRO TIP: Light bulbs are not that expensive so replacing all of them in one go may save you time and effort at a later stage as their lifespans are usually the same.
