How to hook up a trailer
Hooking up a trailer to your car isn’t that difficult.
With smaller single axle trailers you an simply pick them up and place them on the tow ball, ensure that the hitch engages by pulling the small tab, slip the safety chain over the towball and connect up the electrics via the plug.
You should then do a light check by checking that the indicators, brake lights and running lights are working.
With larger trailers you will need to back up the car to the trailer hitch as the trailers are often very heavy and cannot be lifted easily. Often there is a jockey wheel with a circular jacking motion that can lift the trailer up and down so that it can be lowered onto the towhitch.
As before check that the ball engages with the hitch and slip the safety chain over the ball. Once again connect the electrics via the plug and do a light check.
Also ensure that you have a wheel spanner and spare wheel for your trailer before setting off and DO NOT tow more than your car can handle.
