Over time, the rubber compounds used to manufacturer the blades will start to crack as it dries out and as a result won't effectively clear your windscreen when you most need it. Worse is when sand or dust gets lodged in those cracks and scratches your windscreen during use.
Is it necessary for you to visit a service centre to have the wiper blades replaced? In short, no, instead this type of maintenance falls under the responsibility of the vehicle owner, however, it is recommended using genuine Volvo parts. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to replace your wiper blades.
You will need:
Replacement wiper blades (these are Volvo specific and may only be available from a Volvo dealer in some areas)
Soft cloth
Let's get it done:
1. Let us start on the driver's side of the vehicle, not because of preference but because you will notice the blade is slightly longer than that of the passenger side. Gently lift the blade off the windscreen.
2. At the base of the wiper blade where it meets the wiper arm, you will find a button. Depress this button and pull away from the rod.
3. To avoid scratches on the windscreen, use a soft cloth to wipe away any dust or debris.
4. Carefully align the base of the new blade with the connecting point of the wiper arm and gently slide it in until you hear a click.
5. You can now gently lower the wiper arm and blade on to the windscreen and repeat the process on the passenger side of the vehicle.
6. Ensure the window washer fluid container is filled up and test your new wipers.
