With the rainy season around the corner, it is time for vehicle owners to inspect the condition of their windscreen wiper blades. While windscreen wiper blades are but a small feature on any car, it is a very important component when driving in the rain. Wiper blades are made up of a rubber and silicone composite and while it provides for excellent clearing of your windscreen without leaving scratches, the composite will usually only last 18 months at best before they start cracking and deteriorating. This is why it is important to always inspect the condition of your wiper blades before you get caught out by that unexpected downpour on your way home.

You will need
- A new set of wiper blades not only in the correct length but also with the correct clip for your BMW model. While some auto spare shops will be able to assist you with an aftermarket set alternatively, visit your closest BMW dealership and inquire about OEM original blades your vehicle.
- A damp cloth.
- Your BMW key.
How to:
1. To avoid scratching your bonnet while trying to lift-up the wiper blade arms, it is best to set them to a vertical position first. On earlier models, you can switch on your ignition and activate the windscreen wipers, once in the verticle position, quickly switch off your vehicle for the wipers to remain in that position. On newer BMW models, switch on your ignition and press the wiper stork upwards for a few seconds, you will notice the wiper arms move into a verticle position and remain there. Switch off your ignition and move on to step 2.
2. Now that the wiper blade arms are in a verticle position you can now continue to lift the driver side wiper blade arm off the windscreen surface and locate the release buttons.
3. The wiper blade needs to be released from the wiper arm before it can be removed. To release the wiper blade, locate the release buttons on either side of the connector located at the end of the wiper arm.
4. Once you have located the buttons. Press both buttons on either side simultaneously and proceed to move the wiper blade in a verticle direction away from the wiper arms. This will release the wiper blade from the arm.
5. Now that the old wiper blade is removed, proceed to inspect and clean any dust or dirt particle off the new wiper blade. Once you have done proceed to align the tip of the wiper arm with the corresponding clip on the new wiper blade and gently push it into place.
6. Inspect to confirm that the two buttons that keep the wiper blade in place have clipped into the correct positions and is secure.
7. Repeat the entire process on the passenger side wiper arm of the vehicle.
8. Before lowering the newly installed wiper blades onto the surface of your windscreen, use the damp cloth to clean any dirt or grime that have accumulated.
9. After lowering both wiper arms, proceed to switch on the ignition of your vehicle. Older BMW models will automatically return the wiper blade arms to their stowed position. On the newer vehicle models, briefly press down on the wiper stork and you will notice the wiper arms return down their stowed position. Now test the system before heading out on your next trip.
