How to change a car battery

If you have chosen to forgo the use of a battery service centre and want to change your own battery it is a relatively simple task that you can tackle at home with just a few small tools.

Begin by locating the clamp or strap that holds the battery to the battery tray and remove this.

Once the battery is free you can move on to the battery terminals. Always begin with the negative post and then remove the positive terminal. This prevents accidently grounding the battery to the car.

Once you’ve replaced the battery you should now begin with the positive terminal and then move onto the negative one.

Replace the clamp or strap and you’re ready to go!

Note: In the absence of a memory saver you will lose all saved information on the vehicles radio and trip computer once you disconnect the battery.
