5 Accessories for your used Toyota Fortuner
Seeing as the Toyota Fortuner is so immensely popular among everyone from school-run parents to serious bundu-bashers, it’s very lucrative for accessory suppliers to cater for those Fortuner owners who want to personalize their vehicles. We take a look at some of the best extras for those owners.
Front bumper upgrade/bullbar
Toyota didn’t really style the Fortuner to look aggressive – it’s mostly meant to look attractive to a wide cross-section of owners. But, if you want your Fortuner to display a lot more attitude than it received on the production line, fitting an aftermarket replacement bumper and bullbar is a great place to start. Not only will it add road presence, but it will also help protect your Fortuner’s bonnet and fenders, not to mention clear the fast lane very quickly. Just ensure that the aftermarket item you choose is compatible with the airbag system, as fitting an inappropriate bumper will render your car’s safety systems inoperative.
Alloy wheels and off-road tyres
The Fortuner’s standard alloy wheels are quite attractive on their own, but they still look rather lost in those big wheel arches. and are a sure-fire solution to this problem, and will even improve off-road ability or on-road handling, depending on the tyres you choose. Just be careful to NOT select a very low-profile wheel/tyre combination, as such tyres will add considerably to the Fortuner’s somewhat busy ride quality, and render it useless when the tarmac ends.
Sump- and Gearbox guard
If you’re planning to exploit your Fortuner’s off-road abilities, it’s always a good idea to add some underbody protection. These sump- and gearbox guards are fairly straight-forward to fit, but will help to keep your drivetrain safe from damage caused by errant rocks and tree stumps. And, when you fit them together with an upgraded front bumper, it becomes visible and further improves your car’s looks.
Upgraded infotainment system
The standard-fit Toyota audio system (especially in the lower-trim Fortuners) isn’t really all that great. Its interface is rather clunky, the display screen has a low resolution, and the sound quality is average at best. Fortunately, you don’t have to put up with this, and with a wide array of upgraded infotainment systems available on the aftermarket, it will be easy to add some oomph to your car’s sound system. Some of these upgrades even include , and if your car isn’t fitted with a rear-view camera already, it can easily be added to this installation.
12V/220V Fridge/Freezer
It’s surprising that built-in fridges aren’t more popular in family-biased, go-anywhere vehicles such as the Fortuner. Just imagine being able to buy a tub of ice-cream in the middle of December and actually have it still frozen when you get home, or greeting your offspring with bottles of ice-cold water when you collect them after school. The upshot of a dual-voltage fridge/freezer is that it will keep your drinks cool when you’re en route to the lake, and you can re-purpose it as a cooler box when your mates come over to your place for a braai. It’s a win all round!
