Which used Porsche Macan is better: petrol or diesel?
The Porsche Macan is the smaller of the two SUV ranges offered by the German automaker. While currently the Macan is built using petrol engines only, the compact SUV traditionally came with diesel motors too. We take a look at used Porsche Macan models to find out which is better, petrol or diesel.
With the growing demand for compact SUV’s, it was only a matter of time before Porsche entered the segment. In 2014 the German sportscar manufacturer introduced its Macan, the Audi Q3 Sportback and BMW X4 competitor, which since its introduction has been a rather hot commodity from the Porsche stable.

Due to current product strategy, Porsche no longer offers the Macan with a diesel engine so for the purpose of this article, we head over the used vehicle market, where you will find a variety of options.
Macan S Petrol
While the Macan S might look compact in its design, there is nothing compact about its engine. Under the bonnet, you will find a 3.0-litre, V6 bi-turbocharged motor delivering 250 kW and 480 Nm of torque. Get one that has the optional Sports Chrono Package and the Macan will hit 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds.
The package also ensures the best performance with the all-wheel-drive system as well as an electronically controlled, map-controlled multi-plate clutch as well as the 7-speed double-clutch transmission. Fuel consumption figures are between 9.0 and 8.7 L / 100 km according to Porsche.
Macan S Diesel
For those wanting a diesel Macan it is worth noting that Porsche no longer makes diesel-powered cars, hence the comparison between the first-generation models. It’s 3.0-litre, six-cylinder engine is said to achieve a fuel consumption figures of between just 6.3 and 6.1 L / 100 km. An impressive feat considering the fact that this motor develops 190 kW and 580 Nm of torque.
Like with the petrol variant, try to find one with the optional Sports Chrono package. This ensures that you will reach 100 km/h from standstill in around 6.1 seconds. Like the petrol alternative, the diesel also features all-wheel drive and the quick-shifting 7-speed gearbox.
Which is best?
After looking at the figures one might think that the petrol-powered offering is the one to go for. However, if you take into account the fuel efficiency offered by the diesel and the better resale values seen with the first-generation diesel models when compared to the petrol variants, the diesel might just be the one to opt for.
