Which Second Generation Suzuki Celerio depreciates the fastest?

The Suzuki Celerio is one of those budget cars that break the stigma of not-so-great. Frugal motoring more than ever is a huge thing, so it would seem that the Suzuki Celerio would hold its value quite well.

The previous generation (2014-2022) Suzuki Celerio is one of the vehicles that broke the stigmas surrounding budget motoring. A solid platform, frugal engine and a decent amount of spec made this vehicle a good product mover. This Celerio was powered by a 3-cylinder, 1-litre, petrol engine pushing out 55 kW of power and 90 Nm of torque. While a small amount of power, remember the Celerio didn't weigh a whole lot at 825kg kerb weight. With all that, you got a combined fuel consumption of 4.7L / 100km which is amazingly efficient.

This Celerio comes in 3 derivatives. The 1.0 GA Manual base model, 1.0 GL Manual and 1.0l GL AMT. You'd tend to think at the price bracket this Celerio found itself in, the feature set would be quite spartan. This isn't the case here though.

1. Suzuki Celerio 1.0 GA Manual

The base specification Suzuki Celerio. This trim came with standard with the same safety equipment and engine as the higher tier models, with the only excluded items being creature comforts like electric windows, fog lamps and a Bluetooth radio but with wiring and speakers to accommodate an aftermarket radio install.

New Price (2018): R153 900

Price Used: R119 500

Average Mileage: 90 260km

Value Retained: 77.65%

2. Suzuki Celerio 1.0 GL Manual

The Suzuki Celerio in GL trim gains creature comforts like electric windows, Bluetooth radio with steering wheel controls, fog lamps and some silver trim accents in the interior.

New Price (2018): R171 900

Price Used: R125 900

Average Mileage: 45 000km

Value Retained: 73.24%

3. Suzuki Celerio 1.0 GL AMT Auto

The 1.0 GL AMT maintains all of the creature comforts found in the 1.0 GL manual with the major addition being the AMT automated manual gearbox. For all intents and purposes, this is an automatic gearbox.

New Price (2018): R185 900

Price Used: R129 700

Average Mileage: 86 092 km

Value Retained: 69.77%

Verdict

Judging from the above, we can see that the 1.0 GA manual retains its value the most, closely followed by the 1.0 GL Manual and then the 1.0 GL AMT. The average retained value percentage for all cars hovers around the 70% mark. That being said it's worth mentioning that with budget cars, due to the saturation of them in the market, you won't really see over 90% of the value being retained like how, let's say, a sports car does. But the quickest depreciating Suzuki Celerio is the 1.0 GL AMT.
